Hawks baseball squad receives WJCAC, Region 5 honors

May 30, 2012

Howard College's Jordan Allen (outfield) was chosen as the WJCAC MVP and received All-Region honors. The Hawks baseball squad went 45-12 this season before losing the Region 5 championship match-up to Cisco College.

The Howard College Hawks baseball team — who finished with a 45-12 record — might not have reached all of their season goals, but the squad has been showered with recognition from both the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) and Region 5.

The 2012 WJCAC All-Conference team recognized three players while also giving the nod to Coach Britt Smith as the WJCAC Coach of the Year as he led the team to a record four consecutive conference championships.
Jordan Allen (outfield), Paul Hendrix (infield) and Logan Ehlers (pitcher) were each selected as part of the All-Conference team for their respective positions.

Additionally, Allen was recognized as the WJCAC Most Valuable Player while Ehlers was tagged as Most Valuable Pitcher.

“We have watched these players grow and mature and could not be more proud of the individuals and players they have become,” said Hawks Head Coach Britt Smith. “They certainly are deserving of the honors.”

The postseason tournament proved to be a tough gauntlet for the Hawks after coming up short in the Region 5 championship game vs. Cisco College.

The recognition of the student athletes on the All-Region 5 Baseball Team is indicative of the strength of the team as well as the individual players.

Among the Region 5 selections were Ehlers, Hendrix, and Allen with designated hitter Elliot Richoux rounding out the representatives.

“Each of these young men have a bright future ahead of them,” added Smith. “They have a great work ethic and know how to reach their goals. I wish them the best of luck.”

WJCAC Honorable Mentions went to HC’s Brett Bell, Hector Lorenzana, Todd Ritchie, Colt Bickerstaff, Reed Seeley, Dexter Kjerstad, Nick Sawyer, Reid Scoggins, Clayton Crum and Dominic Moreno.
