Hawks open conference play with sweep

SNYDER — Both Howard College basketball teams turned to defense to earn wins in their Western Junior College Athletic Conference-opening games against Western Texas College Monday night.

Howard’s women limited WTC to only 30 percent shooting en route to a 48-39 victory, while the HC men held Western scoreless over a crucial five-minute stretch of the second half to take a 63-53 win.
