Law enforcement officials are remaining tight-lipped regarding an investigation into what may be a human skull discovered Monday morning at a location in northern Howard County.
A press release issued by the Howard County Sheriff's Office Monday morning advised law enforcement officials were called to the scene around 11 a.m. at an undisclosed location in northern Howard County after what appears to be a piece of a human skull was found.
Sheriff Stan Parker said the item has been sent to specialists to determine if the skull is indeed human, and, if so, details such as how old it is and whether it came from a male or female subject.
“The investigation is open and ongoing. There really isn't much more I'm at liberty to discuss at this time,” Parker said.
When asked if the skull is believed to be tied to any other ongoing investigations — such as a missing person or possible homicide — Parker declined to comment, once again citing the open investigation.
A local resident, however, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed to the Herald Tuesday the skull was discovered in the trunk of a brown 1985 Buick. However, the informant could not confirm whether the skull was human.
