Healthy Woman/Safe Kids team to help area families

August 29, 2011

Buckled up safely and ready to go — that was the message Saturday morning at the Safe Kids San Angelo program at Scenic Mountain Medical Center.
SMMC/Healthy Woman teamed up with Safe Kids in order to provide the Big Spring community with an opportunity to get children in proper car seats. Numerous volunteers, including Healthy Woman members, Big Spring Police Department, Department of Public Safety troopers, SMMC employees and Safe Kid representatives were on hand.
“It's all about the kids and showing them we are here to help them in any way we can. We need to make sure they are safe when they are traveling,” said Big Spring Police Officer Amie Soles.
Starting at 8 a.m. in the SMMC parking lot, residents were able to drive in with their children and have their current car seat inspected. If found to be unsafe, they could have it replaced free of charge.
