Vintage Valentine reception set for Valentines Day

Heritage Museum will be showing its romantic side on Valentine’s Day.
In recognition of Valentine’s Day and the new Vintage Valentine exhibit, which will run through March 3, the museum will host an all-day reception.
“We are showing our romantic side at the Heritage Museum with this vintage exhibit,” Museum Director Nancy Raney said.
Part of the exhibit will show how wedding dresses have changed over the past hundred years. On display will be a wedding dress from 1894 and a dress from 1994.
There will also be vintage valentines on display which belonged to MGM movie star Jean Porter. Porter lived in Big Spring for several years before moving to California. According to Museum Curator Tammy Schrecengost, she considers Big Spring as her hometown and wanted to donate them (valentine’s cards) to the museum.
“This is a great opportunity to see how valentine’s have changed,” Schrecengost said. “Now they are marketed more accordingly to the trend at the time and back then they were more personalized and … well, different.”
Other items in the exhibit include Bebe McCasland’s lace collection. Several of the items in the collection are from the 1880s, including a buffet runner.
“It is really neat to see all these little pieces of vintage lace,” Schrecengost said.
To find out more about the exhibit call the museum at 267-8255. Heritage Museum is located at 510 Scurry St.
Admission to the museum is $3 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. Operating hours are Tuesday through Friday 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
