Horace 'Hoss' Rankin

Horace "Hoss" Rankin, 84, of Big Spring died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Matt Farmer officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Kimble, Texas, and married LaRue Browne on Aug. 26, 1950, in Odessa, Texas. She preceded him in death April 25, 2004.

Horace graduated from Big Spring High School, lettering in football, basketball and track. He attended Howard College and played basketball under Coach Harold Davis. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Horace started roping at an early age and was a gold card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. As a member of the Senior Pro Rodeo Association, he won numerous world titles. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Valencia Ditto and husband Kyle of Granbury and Teresa Cox and husband Rex of Lipan; four grandchildren, Justin Cox of Lipan, Shey Ditto and wife Connie of Arlington, Corey Cox of Snyder and Colby Ditto and wife Atyka of Granbury; and four great-grandchildren, Blayne Ditto, Brayden Ditto, Akyah Ditto and Tyler Ditto.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.
