It's one thing to enroll in college. It's entirely another for the college to write off the charges.
Howard College is offerings students at its Big Spring campus an enticement to enroll early, and it's a doozy — anyone who completes early enrollment for the fall 2013 semester as a full-time student (at least 12 semester hours) by the end of business Tuesday will be entered into a drawing for a full scholarship which would cover the entire 2013-2014 college year.
The scholarship is valued at approximately $3,600, said Rebecca Villanueva of the college's enrollment office.
“We've had these drawings for the past three years,” Villanueva said. “We feel this is a good way to entice students to come in and enroll.”
The drawing is open only to students of Howard's Big Spring campus, she added.
This early enrollment push by the college will culminate Tuesday, when enrollment personnel temporarily take over the “Old Main” administration building from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Villanueva said this will offer prospective students who have day jobs a chance to enroll in classes.
“This is more for non-traditional (college) students who might not be able to get off work before 5 p.m.,” she said.
Officials will be on hand to handle various enrollment topics, including financial aid and course planning. In addition, refreshments will be served, Villanueva said.
