Howard College women thrash LCU JV 114-44

November 2, 2010

Howard College's Zeslie Johnson shoots a jumpshot against Lubbock Christian JV Tuesday.

Porsche Young felt like all freshmen women's basketball players should during their first collegiate game.

“I was excited and nervous,” the guard from Oklahoma City said. “I came out and my hands were sweating. But it was fun, it was a good experience.”

Young might have said she was nervous, but she didn't play like it.
The freshman shined in the Howard College Hawks' season-opening win over Lubbock Christian Junior Varsity 114-44 with 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

She didn't outdo one of the veterans on this team, sophomore Twyla Ards, who led with 30 points, along with seven steals. Taniqua Ards and Tasha Tubbs chipped in 18 and 13 points, respectively.
Sounds like head coach Earl Diddle has a couple of good guards on his hands. What's more impressive to him, though, is how well his team executed Tuesday.

“Really pretty good, for having three returners,” he said. “We've got a whole group of freshmen coming in, so I was really pleased with our unselfishness, team effort, our execution for first game out of the gate.

“It was probably, as I told our team, the best execution and team development game that we've had since I've been here.”
