Howard men, women take care of NMJC
Kali Jerrell had eight points in the Howard women's win over New Mexico Junior College Monday.
The Howard College menâ€™s basketball team battled through a tough game to beat New Mexico Junior College 62-57 Monday in Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
Joe Bright had 17 points. Carlos Emory had 10 points and five rebounds and Corey Stern had seven points and seven rebounds.
New Mexico Junior College was up by three at halftime, but Brightâ€™s big game was a catalyst for the Hawks.
The Hawks improved to 17-6 overall, 7-2 in conference play. They have New Mexico Military Institute at home at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Howard women beat New Mexico 71-61 in WJCAC action Monday night.
Taniqua Ards and Tasha Tubbs were key as usual. Ards had 19 points and Tubbs had 15 points, including five 3-pointers. Kali Jerrell chipped in eight points.
Howard shot 43 percent from the field in Mondayâ€™s win. The Hawks get a break in conference play Wednesday with a trip to face College of the Southwest Junior Varsity in a make-up game.

The Howard College softball team will play Cisco College at 12:30 p.m. today in a rescheduled game at Big Spring High School.
Howard College baseball and softball games have constantly been rescheduled because of the harsh weather. The Hawk baseball team wonâ€™t play until Friday when they take a trip to Mt. Pleasant for a doubleheader against Seminole State College.
