HERALD Photo/Adam Coleman — Howard College’s Twyla Ards looks to make a pass in the Hawks’ game against Lubbock Christian earlier this season. Howard College is ranked No. 18 in the nation.

The new NJCAA National Polls were released Wednesday morning and a familiar face was in the Top 25 for women’s basketball.

The Howard College Hawks basketball team stepped in at No. 18 in the polls. The team is off to a 6-0 start this season, firing on all cylinders and defeating their opponents by an average of 44 points.

“This team has a great sense of teamwork,” head coach Earl Diddle said. “With their intense level of overall play, they have been able to put together some strong wins and see some success.”

The balanced attack of Howard’s offensive and defensive performance is giving the Hawks an advantage over their opponents. With a No. 1 ranked defense in the country holding teams to an average of 42 points per game paired with a No. 3 ranked offense averaging 88 points per game, the Hawks are making a name for themselves.

“We’re pleased with the ranking but have a lot of work to do in order to continue our improvement and play solid, consistent basketball throughout the season,” Diddle said. “We’ll just take it one game at a time and focus on putting more marks in the win column.”
