Howard women still need win for postseason

February 22, 2011

ODESSA — Thursday’s game against Frank Phillips College for the Howard College women’s basketball team is now do or die.

The Hawk women fell to Odessa College Monday in WJCAC action, 66-45. The loss makes the regular season finale the biggest game of the year. Howard needs to beat Frank Phillips at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum and a New Mexico Junior College loss at South Plains in order to clinch a berth in the Region V Tournament. Frank Phillips has already been eliminated.

The Hawk women are 20-9 overall and 5-6 in conference play. Before this loss, they took a tough loss at home to a Western Texas team they beat in Snyder.

The Howard men needed overtime to take down Odessa College, 65-62. The win gives Howard an 11-2 record in conference play. The Hawks have already clinched a berth in the Region V Tournament. While this was a tough game for both Howard and Odessa, both teams are already in the Region V Tournament.

Midland College, who sits a game ahead of the Hawks in the standings, clinched at least a share of the conference title with a win over Western Texas College Tuesday.
