Hubert Uptergrove, 96, of Big Spring, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 02, 2014, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Dr. Doug Shelley, pastor of East Side Baptist Church, officiating.

He was born May 12, 1917, at Sayre, Okla. He married LaVerna Hale on July 10, 1962, in Stillwell, Okla. He was a retired rancher and moved to Big Spring 10 years ago from Maryneal, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerna Uptergrove of Big Spring; two sons, Jim Uptergrove and his wife Ethie of Clarendon, Texas, and Mike Uptergrove and his wife Ann of Colorado City, Texas; two daughters, Sharon Brooks and his wife Rex of Sallisaw, Okla., and Linda West of Spearman, Texas; one step-son, Larry Hale and his wife Bobbie of Abilene, Texas; two step-daughters, Joyce Gaston and her husband John of Big Spring, and Jolene Hale of Abilene; one sister, Beth Miller and her husband Jay of Borger, Texas; 18 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Norma Titus; two brothers, Clovis Uptergrove and Roy Lee Uptergrove; and two grandchildren, Casey Uptergrove and Shaunna Brooks.
