Ira E. 'Skipper' Boyd

Ira E. “Skipper” Boyd, 65, of Big Spring died Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Odessa Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Spring Creek Fellowship with the Rev. Derrick Looney officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

He was born Jan. 28, 1947, in Rockdale, Texas, to Edith and Alvin Boyd. He was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. He married Tonya Wilson in 1966 and was a veteran of the Army. He retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Smith Unit in Lamesa after 20 years and worked at Saunders Supply Company for 20 years. He was a member of Spring Creek Fellowship Church.

He is survived by his wife, Tonya Boyd of Big Spring; three sons, Gary Boyd and wife Patricia of Big Spring, Master Gunnery Sgt. Bryan Boyd and wife Kim of Jacksonville, N.C., and Shawn Boyd and wife Jennifer of Big Spring; two brothers, Marvin Boyd and wife Shirley and Martin Boyd, all of Big Spring; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Boyd; mother, Edith Pauline Gary; stepfather, Louis Gary; one sister, Malinda Beth Feek; and a niece.

The family suggests memorials to Spring Creek Fellowship Building Fund, 501 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, TX 79720.
