Isabel "Cuata" Mata, 82, of Big Spring passed away Friday, May 31, 2013. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Myers& Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with MSGR Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
She was born June 17, 1930, at Knott, Texas, to Jesusita and Jose Gonzales. She grew up in Big Spring and was a lifetime resident of Howard County. She was a licensed vocational nurse, having graduated from the Medical Arts School of Nursing. She had worked at Medical Arts Hospital, Cowper Clinic and later the Big Spring State Hospital, until retiring. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. She married Jose Angel Mata March 18, 1953, in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Sept. 3, 2011.
She is survived by one daughter, Christina Hilario and husband Abelardo Jr. of Big Spring; three grandchildren, Abel Hilario III and wife Kelli of Keller, Marisa Collins and husband Matt of Fresno, Calif., and Matthew Hilario of Denver, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Brittney Collins and Tyler Collins of Fresno and Hannah Hilario and Brevin Hilario of Keller; and several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend and caregiver, Maria Luz Puga.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Joe Mata Jr.; three brothers, Manuel "Cuate" Gonzales, her twin, Jose Angel Gonzales and Carmen Gonzales; and four sisters; Catalina Lomas, Benigna Chavez, Prajedes Sarmiento and Lolla Zapata.
