Jack Walter Mitchell, 81, of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at the Senior Citizens Center.
He was born March 4, 1930 to Sarah and Luther Mitchell in Corbin, Kentucky. He lived in Michigan most of his life where he owned his own roofing and contracting business. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Japan from 1947 to 1950 and in Germany from 1952 until 1954. He moved to Big Spring in March of 2009. He was active at the Senior Citizens Center and was a Baptist.
He is survived by his children, Christina Chalker and husband Eric of Ferndale, Mich., Kathleen Oliver and husband Alan of Warren, Mich., Darcy Kovach of Big Spring, Madeline Brasel of Big Spring, Mitchell and Lenore Mitchell of Hazel Park, Mich., Laurena VandeWeerd and husband James of Big Spring, and Jacqueline Oszczudlak and husband Wally of Detroit, Mich.; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
