Jan Tom Whatley

GRANBURY — Jan Tom Whatley, born Oct. 31, 1953, to Tommy and Deidra Whatley, passed away peacefully May 30, 2013, after a six-year battle with bile duct cancer. He bravely fought to stay in this world.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, Texas.
He was a graduate of the University of Texas and held the MAI designation of the Appraisal Institute. Jan was mentored as an appraiser 28 years ago by Wendell Pyles. They partnered up to form the Pyles Whatley Corporation, which specializes in commercial real estate.

Jan and Wendell went on to mentor many more successful appraisers. Through the years, he held offices including president of the International Right-of-Way Association, Chapter 36. The chapter named him professional of the year in 2008.

Jan was a loving father and husband. He enjoyed coaching sports teams, leading Indian Guide troops and traveling with his family. He was an avid hunter and golfer and he was a superhero to his sons.

Jan is survived by his wife, Cynthia Cook; sons, Jace and J.Lee Whatley; brother, Van Tom Whatley and wife Cindy; sister, Dana Tom Whatley; father and mother-in-law, Pete and Annabelle Cook; sister-in-law, Peggy Cook; brother-in-law, Clif Cook and wife Bennie Hill; nieces and nephews, Lori, Nick, Libby, Lexi, McKenna, John and Travis.
