Jana was born April 12, 1957, in Big Spring to Jerry "Spot" Cockrell and Daury Garrison Cockrell. She graduated from Forsan High School in 1975. She married the Terry "Fuzzy" Carter on Feb. 12, 1977. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2000. She then married Stephen Hector on May 2, 2002. She always said she was a fortunate woman to have two great loves in her life — two men that both cared for and pampered her.

She was trained to be a bookkeeper by her mother, Daury. She began her career at Brumley & Associates, but left to work with Fuzzy at Eddie Hill Racing. She was the team bookkeeper when the Pennzoil "Nuclear Banana" won the Top Fuel Dragster World Championship in 1993. She worked with Fuzzy until his passing in 2000. In 2002, she founded J&S Tubing Testing with her husband, Steve Hector. They owned and operated the business together until her passing.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Hector of Big Spring; mother, Daury Booth of Big Spring; sister, Debbie Ellis of Big Spring; brother, Donnie Cockrell of Alvord; several nieces and nephews, including Kambrah Wiseman of League City and Tony Wyrick of Big Spring; mother-in-law, Willie Hart of Haskell; sister-in-law, Debbie Gressett of Haskell; sister-in-law, Carla Shaw of Big Spring; brother-in-law, Jim Bob Carter of Rochester; step-son, Stetson Hector of Midland; and step-daughter, Shasta Hector of Midland.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Christie Carter; her father, Jerry "Spot" Cockrell; one niece, Nikki Ellis; and two sisters-in-law, Monika Cockrell and Donna Franklin.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Howard County Humane Society, PO Box 823, Big Spring, Texas 79720; St. Jude Children's Hosptial, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or the Howard/Glasscock Counties Relay for Life, 2304 W. Wadley, Midland, Texas 79705.
