J.D. 'Jake' Hyden

J.D. "Jake" Hyden, 84, of Waco, formerly of Big Spring died Thursday Nov. 14, 2013 at his home after a lengthy illness. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Teresa Cassidy officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born May 1, 1929, to Ina (McMurry) and Cecil Hyden in Howard County and was raised in Luther. After serving in the Navy, he worked as a transmission mechanic for Jack Lewis Cadillac and Shroyer Motors. He also owned and operated Hyden Transmission Shop for more than 40 years. He was married to Bonnie Brunson for more than 30 years. After moving to Waco, he was an active member of Top Hand Cowboy Church in Valley Mills.

He is survived by one son, Randy Hyden of Lubbock; four daughters, Brenda Linehan and husband Adam of Bastrop, Teresa Cassidy and husband Jim of Waco, Linda Hyden of Lubbock and Sandy Wood and husband Blane of Lubbock; one brother, Ross Hyden of Carlsbad, N.M.; one sister, Imogene Burroughs of Minnesota; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; a son John Hyden; a granddaughter and one great granddaughter.
