Jeff Schubert

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Jeff Schubert, 67 of Lubbock, Texas, at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, Lubbock. Jeff died Aug. 7, 2013.

He was born on March 16, 1946, in Downers Grove, Ill. and was a 1964 graduate of Downers Grove High School. Jeff graduated from Western Michigan University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in science and entered the Air Force in 1969. Jeff spent most of his active duty in the Strategic Air Command, flying B-52 bombers. He was awarded with the Meritorious Service Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster) for Outstanding Service in 1986. Before his retirement as a lieutenant colonel, he was stationed at Dyess AFB, where he performed flight commander duties as well as instructed new offensive systems operators. He earned his master of science in counseling and human development from Troy University, Troy Ala., in 1982.

Following Jeff’s retirement from the Air Force, he moved to Lubbock and earned his master of education from Wayland Baptist University in 1999. He taught in Lubbock ISD and Plainview ISD until 2004.

Jeff married Jean Shockey on March 17, 2001. He enjoyed golf and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Schubert; mother, Betty Schebert-Williams; and a sister, Sally Schubert.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Erin Needham and husband Gary of Wylie and Megan Leese and husband Ben of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a step-daughter, Susan Cevallos and husband Cecil of Big Spring; and a step-son, Terry Don Harris and wife Janet of Pampa; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
