Jerline Averitt, 87, of Big Spring, Texas, died Friday Jan. 17, 2014, at her residence. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Eddy Prince of Grace Fellowship Church of God officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.

She was born to Ollie and Henry David Ayers in Gilliam, Ark., on Sept.30, 1926. She was a longtime resident of Howard County, moving to Big Spring in 1943 from DeQueen, Ark. She married William Bryan Averitt on Dec. 7, 1944, in Campbell, Calif. He died March 3, 1987. She was a professional cake decorator.

She is survived by two daughters: Jeane Ward and husband James of Big Spring and Betty Hoffman and husband James of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, David Ayers and wife Barbara of Big Spring; one sister-in-law: Alma Claire Simpson of Odessa, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
