Jo Ann Capps, 73, of Big Spring died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Vealmoor Cemetery.

She was born March 29, 1939, in Melrose, N.M., to Mary Belle and C.L. “Bill” Watson. Jo Ann married Jack E. Capps in Levelland on Nov. 10, 1955.

She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Lamesa for more than 20 years, where she was a children’s Sunday school teacher and the Children’s Church director. She was most recently a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Big Spring. She was a homemaker and a self-employed housekeeper.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jack E. Capps of Vealmoor; son, Billy J. Capps of Eunice, N.M.; daughter, Mary Denise Emfinger of Big Spring; brother, Colon A. Sweet of Fairfield; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Melvin l. Watson; sisters, Aletha Faye Herdon, Peggy Ann Payton and Lula Pearl (Pete) Floyd.

The family suggests memorials to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2000 W. FM 700, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
