Jo Ann Capps, 73, of Big Spring died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Vealmoor Cemetery.
She was born March 29, 1939, in Melrose, N.M., to Mary Belle and C.L. â€śBillâ€ť Watson. Jo Ann married Jack E. Capps in Levelland on Nov. 10, 1955.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Lamesa for more than 20 years, where she was a childrenâ€™s Sunday school teacher and the Childrenâ€™s Church director. She was most recently a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Big Spring. She was a homemaker and a self-employed housekeeper.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jack E. Capps of Vealmoor; son, Billy J. Capps of Eunice, N.M.; daughter, Mary Denise Emfinger of Big Spring; brother, Colon A. Sweet of Fairfield; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Melvin l. Watson; sisters, Aletha Faye Herdon, Peggy Ann Payton and Lula Pearl (Pete) Floyd.
The family suggests memorials to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2000 W. FM 700, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
