J.O. 'Jim' Murphy

J.O. “Jim” Murphy, 76, of Big Spring died Monday, March 18, 2013. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Big Spring to Mildred and James Murphy Sr. He married Donna Chaney on March 1, 1978. She preceded him in death Oct. 9, 2008.

Jim was a lifetime resident of Big Spring and worked 33 years at Cosden and later Fina, retiring in 1992. During that time, he also owned A-1 Plumbing.

He loved the outdoors, especially Colorado. He also loved his dogs and anything to do with trains, having worked for a while for Texas And Pacific Railroad. He was a member of Grace Fellowship in Odessa.

He is survived by two daughters, Joy Linn Landis and husband Forrest of Tucson and Diane Hatch of Groves; five sons, Kevin Murphy and wife Shirley of Big Spring, Bobby Stark and wife Lawana of Odessa, Chris Chaney and wife Teri, Keith Chaney and Joe Don Chaney and wife Tammye, all of Big Spring; one sister, Marian Walker of Big Spring; two brothers, Jerry Murphy and wife Tavie of Seguin and Dick Murphy and wife Barbara of Big Spring; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nune Moralez, Bryan Johnson, Bobby Stark, Austin Shaffer, Lance Murphy, Daniel Clark, Doug Wagner and Taylor Smith.
