Funeral services for Joe Garcia Lopez Sr., 67, of Lovington, N.M. will be held Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. Manuel Ibarra officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.

Joe was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Saragoza, Texas to Roman Lopez and Florencia Sanchez-Garcia and passed away Feb. 16, 2014, in Hobbs, N.M. He was employed by Shell Oil Company until the late 1980s. Joe was raised in Lovington and was in the Army and fought during the Vietnam War; he was stationed in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leroy and Roman Jr. Lopez; and one brother-in-law, Bennie Garcia.

He is survived by two sons, Joe S. Lopez Jr. and Joey S. Lopez, both of Denver City, Texas; three brothers, Sammy and wife Norma Lopez of Lovington, N.M.; and Frank and Larry Lopez of Lovington, N.M.; four sisters, Lupe and husband Reyes Medrano of Lovington, N.M.; Margie Garcia of Lovington, N.M.; Alice and husband Johnny Garcia of Hobbs, N.M.; and Sally Gutierrez of Hobbs, N.M. and two granddaughters.

Visitation and Rosary were held on Wednesday at Kirby-Smith-Rogers chapel.
