Joe Gomez, 52, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at his residence. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

He was born Aug. 20, 1960, in Big Spring to Bertha and Ramiro Echavarria. He worked in the oilfield, Fiberglass systems and for more than 20 years for Jiffy Car Wash. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County except for a few years in Laredo. He was a Catholic.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Gomez of Big Spring; two daughters, Ann Marie Castillo and Cecilia Marie Gomez, both of Big Spring; one son, Jose Alfredo Gomez Jr. and his wife, Susie of Big Spring; four grandchildren; three brothers, Manuel Chavarria Jr. and his wife, Karla, Ricky Ramirez and his wife, Betty, and Ernest R. Gomez, all of Big Spring; two sisters, Martha J. Fowler and Herlinda Kay Franco, both of Big Spring; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Magdalena Ruiz, Beatrice Ruiz and Gloria Ruiz; and three brothers, Gregory Ruiz, Ramiro Ruiz and Rosendo Ruiz.
