Joe W. Blassingame

Joe W. Blassingame, 76, of Big Spring died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, in a local nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Joey Bacon officiating.

He was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Mitchell County, Texas, and married Venita Hogg on Feb. 5, 1955 in Ackerly. She preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2005.

Joe was a longtime resident of Howard County. He served in the United States Army, and retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years. He enjoyed farming and ranching, but his greatest joy was his grandson, Collin, and attending all of his activities.

He was a member of Baptist Temple Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Brooks and husband Marty of Coahoma; one son, Eddy Blassingame and wife Joyce of San Angelo; one grandson, Collin McMillan and fiance Kassi Wash of Coahoma; two brothers, Robert Blassingame and wife Lil and Art Blassingame of Big Spring; three sisters, Betty Driver of Big Spring, Bobbi Webb of San Angelo, and Margie Larson of Memphis, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dutch and Daisy Blassingame.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
