Jonnie Spruill, 87, of Big Spring, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Kristi Lee Manor Nursing Home, in Colorado City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, in the Chapel at Mount Olive Memorial Park with Chaplain Walter McCall of Compass Hospice.
She was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Big Spring, Texas, to Bernice and John Digby. She was a lifetime resident of Howard County. She married Marshall James Spruill on Sept. 25, 1954, in Hobbs, N.M. Mr. and Mrs. Spruill owned grocery stores in Big Spring for a number of years. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1990. She later worked at the Big Spring State Hospital until retiring. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Marsha Douglas of Big Spring; one son, Robert Spruill of Stamford; two grandchildren, Lauren Douglas of Fort Worth and Jamie McDonald of San Antonio; one brother, Doyle Digby; and four sisters, Peggy Wilson of Big Spring, Mary Ellerd of Carlsbad, N.M., Virginia Digby of Riverside, Calif. and Betty Grace Ozment of Shreveport, La.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Danny Spruill on Oct. 7, 2010, and three brothers.
