Jose J. Lopez, 91, of Big Spring, died Friday June 6, 2014, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born June 3, 1923, in Mexico to Juliana and Francisco Lopez. He married his wife, Julia Lopez on Jan. 15, 1953, in Ciudad Manuel Doblado Guanajuato, Mexico, and they arrived in the United States as migrant workers in 1957. He retired from Berkley Mobile Homes in 1985. He was a longtime resident of Howard County and a devout Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Lopez of Big Spring; one son, Uvaldo Lopez and wife Angela of Charlottsville, Va.; two daughters, Maria I. Garcia of Big Spring, Janie Yanez and husband Genaro, also of Big Spring; eight grandchildren, Mark Garcia of Dallas, Melinda Garcia, Robert Garcia and Julia Garcia, all of Big Spring, Christopher Lopez and Sydney Lopez, both of Charlottsville, Va., Lucy Huitt and Stephen Yanez, both of Big Spring; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Agapito Lopez of Mercedes, Texas, one sister, Francisca Ramirez of Mexico City; along with several nieces and nephews.
Those serving a pallbearers are Mark Garcia, Robert Garcia, Stephen Yanez, Andrew Chavarria, Jonathan Gomez and Casey Huitt.
