Jose V. Lopez, 87, of Big Spring died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at his residence. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. James Plagens, Deacon Victor Lopez and Deacon Johnny Arguello officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Knox, Texas, to Maria and Phillip Lopez. He married Jesusita Lopez on May 4, 1946. He worked civil service for 30 years and at Moss Elementary for 10 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Society, Cursillitias and a lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. He enjoyed his church, music, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Jesusita Lopez of Big Spring; children, Joe Lopez Jr. and wife Bertha of Houston, Deacon Victor Lopez and wife Mary of Midland, Adolfo Lopez and Maria Louisa Hilario and husband Victor, all of Big Spring, Juan Lopez and wife Sofia and Pedro Lopez and wife Naomi, all of Midland, Socorro Mata and husband Robert of Big Spring, Teresa Ramirez of Ft. Worth, Cynthia Lopez of Dallas and Jennifer Lopez of Big Spring; 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Lopez, Andy Lopez, Gabriel Lopez, Mike Hilario, Pete Lopez Jr. and Daniel Mata.
