Joy Johnke, 71, of Big Spring, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Randy Cotton officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 26, 1942, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Alvin Johnke in January of 2006 in Big Spring, Texas.
Joy was a lifetime resident of Big Spring and graduated from Angelo State University when she was 38 years old. She had worked as a family service counselor in funeral service and had worked with children through MHMR.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin Johnke of Big Spring; one daughter, Debbie Haden and husband Shawn of Fort Worth; two sons, Gary Carey of Big Spring and Terry Carey of Kingfisher, Okla.; one sister, Linda Kay Appleton of Big Spring; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie Butler Appleton; a daughter, Pam Christian; and two brothers.
The family suggests memorials be made to Trinity Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1448, Big Spring, Texas 79721-1448.
