Joyce Aneda Davidson May, age 67, of Kingwood, Texas, was surrounded by her family Tuesday, May 29, 2012, when she passed away after a valiant battle with cancer at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Joyce was born Jan. 27, 1945, to Leola and Truett Davidson, in Big Spring, Texas. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1963 and went on to become a registered nurse in 1971.

Joyce moved to Andrews, Texas, in 1977 where she worked at Permian Regional Medical Center as a surgical nurse. An avid reader, she was passionate about learning and furthered her education by obtaining a bachelor of science in nursing from Texas Tech University and was inducted into the International Honor’s Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau in 1989. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Andrews.

After her children graduated from high school, the family settled in Kingwood, Texas, in 1989, where Joyce worked at the Texas Department of State Health Services in the Professional Licensing and Certification Unit, in which she was instrumental in investigating, evaluating and monitoring a variety of health professions and related facilities ensuring the proper care and treatment of patients.

She was an active member of the Second Baptist Church North in Kingwood and served on the Welcome Desk Committee, welcoming members and guests alike with her warm smile and cheery nature. Always concerned for others, Joyce founded the HOPE Cancer Support Group where she educated, supported and counseled other cancer survivors and family members.

Joyce was fond of travel and sightseeing and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. She especially enjoyed traveling on sea cruises to Alaska, the Mediterranean and North Africa, the Baltic States and Mexico. She also explored many parts of Asia, including The Great Wall of China, Korea, Macau and Thailand.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 36 years, William “Willie” May of Kingwood, Texas; her son, Bradley Wadsworth of Hong Kong, China; her daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Jeff Henderson of Dallas, Texas; her stepdaughter, Tiffany May of Plano, Texas; step-grandchildren Mary, Jordan and Chandler Henderson of Dallas, Texas; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gerald Davidson of Eunice, N.M.; her sister, Patsy Tomlin of Killeen, Texas; as well as her stepson, Shannon May of Kingwood, Texas.

The family will be receiving friends for a viewing to be held Tuesday, June 5, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at the Rosewood Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2602 South Houston Ave., Humble Texas. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at the Second Baptist Church North Campus, 22770 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, Texas. She will be laid to rest at a gravesite service Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Andrews, Texas.
