Karl Wayne Platte

Karl Wayne Platte was born Dec. 2, 1980 to Kenny and Gail Platte in Big Spring, Texas. Karl died June 1, 2013. He was 32 years of age.

He moved with his family to Dora, N.M. in 1986 and eventually to Shattuck, Okla., where he graduated as co-valedictorian in 1999. He then continued his education at N.W. Oklahoma State University in Alva, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. Following graduation he took his first job as a coach.
He married Brandie Lea Long Sept. 14, 2002.

In the miltary, Platte was a decorated veteran of three deployments, including the invasion of Iraq and a combat deployment to Afghanistan.

Shortly after returning home from his third tour of duty, the family made their home in Big Spring, Texas, where Karl took a job at the Federal Prison as a teacher. He enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and golfing.

Karl is survived by his wife, Brandie; two daughters, Karli and Madison; son, Hunter; parents, Kenny and Gail Platte of Shattuck, Okla.; brother, Keith Platte and wife Amy of Brownwood, Texas; brother, Kevin Platte of Shattuck, Okla.; paternal grandmother, Myrle Matthies of San Angelo, Texas; maternal grandparents, Dale and Lois Grose of Fort Cobb, Okla.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers in arms and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday June 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Woodward, Okla. with interment at Gage Memorial Cemetery, Gage, Okla. Condolences may be made to the family and memorial tribute viewed at Arrangements were handled by Shaw Funeral Home of Shattuck, Okla.
