FORSAN — The Forsan Lady Buffaloes improved their district record to 2-1 as they handily defeated the Post Lady Antelopes, 16-3, Monday.
After Post jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, the Lady Buffs charged back, led by a tour de force of hitting by the entire lineup. Ali Knight, who also pitched for the entirety of the game; began the onslaught by belting a double, and following suit was Kayla Tilley, who drove in Knight to score the first run for Forsan. Jahnia Willard and Shelby Roemer also drove in runs, making the score 4-3 at the end of the first inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Post recorded two quick outs until a pair of wild pitches and a walk gave Forsan new offensive life. The Lady Buffs' bats got hot as Stevie Wilson, Willard, Maria Ortiz, Gabby Womack, and Bri Anne Martinez all picked up hits for a combined seven runs batted in, leaving the Lady Antelopes in the hole 11-3.
After a quick third inning for both teams, The Lady Buffs again roared back, tacking on five more runs, as a result of productive at-bats by Womack, Brittney Cline, and Kayla Tilley, ending the fourth with a dominating 16-3 lead.
That lead was too much for the Lady 'Lopes, to overcome. Despite their efforts, a combination of good pitching by Knight and sound fielding by the rest of the Lady Buffs ended Post's hopes of playing another inning, with the umpires calling an end to the game due to the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth.
Forsan Head Coach Shanna Taylor was pleased with her team's dominating performance.
“The girls played great”, she said. “They batted well, which has been our focus all season. We didn't have our usual starting pitcher, and we were using our second pitcher, but (Knight) pitched well, and we fielded the ball well, too.”
The Lady Buffs have some time off, and then resume play against Slaton at home on March 23.View more articles in:
