Lady Steers cruise past Fabens, 65-48

PECOS – Head coach Mike Warren knew the Big Spring Lady Steers needed to find a way to get the Fabens Lady Wildcats to abandon their zone defense early on Tuesday evening as he sat in the Eagles’ Nest at Pecos High School. He just needed something to happen that would force Fabens to spread out their defense a little so his team could use its size and athletic ability in the post.
Julianna Rodriguez was the answer.
The junior point guard knocked down four clutch three-pointers in the first half of play and forced Fabens to shift into a man-to-man approach to respect her outside shooting. And, in so doing, she helped the Big Spring Lady Steers claim a 62-48 victory in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs.
