The Big Spring Lady Steers upped their district record to 4-2 Friday when they defeated Sweetwater in four matches. Sweetwater would rally to take the third game, but the rest of the night belonged to the Lady Steers as they downed their district rival 25-15, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-14.
Cerbi Ritchey led Big Spring with a game-high 21 assists, which were complimented by her 15 kills, six blocks, six digs and four aces. Meanwhile, Taylor Seaton led the Lady Steers with 16 kills. Like Ritchey, Seaton also recorded six blocks in the game,as the two girls led the team in that category as well. In addition, Seaton added four digs and an ace.
Morgan Seaton recorded 14 assists, 17 digs, six kills, three blocks and two aces in Big Spring's winning effort, while Haley Dimidjian added five kills, four digs and two blocks.
Defensively, the Lady Steers were led by Careson Riebe with 21 digs, three aces and a kill, as well as Clara Benavides, who had 13 digs, three kills, three assists and two aces.
In addition to the team leaders, Big Spring got added support from Juliana Rodriquez, Ebony Zavala and Logan Yarbar. The three girls combined for 18 digs in the game. Additionally, Rodriquez recorded two kills and two blocks.
The 28-11 Lady Steers play host to Greenwood tonight in a non-district match. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. with the freshman and JV teams playing at 5 p.m.
The JV squad took the opportunity in Sweetwater to grab a win, defeating the hometown's JV team 25-21and 25-22. Meanwhile, the freshman team fell in three matches after winning the first game. The close scores were 25-16, 21-25 and 21-25.View more articles in:
