Lady Steers make example of Greenwood

The Lady Steers took full advantage of a break in their district schedule to keep their skills sharp, defeating Greenwood in four games. After falling behind and losing the first game 20-25, the girls bounced back, taking the next three games 25-15, 25-18 and 25-17.

It was senior night at Steer Gym and the three graduating Lady Steers put up some impressive numbers for the hometown crowd.

Cerbi Ritchey led the team in three categories. The tall setter had 20 assists, 17 kills and 16 digs along with seven blocks and an ace.
Diamond Mayes led all defensive players with 10 blocks. Mayes also recorded two kills, a dig and an assist.

Taylor Seaton, the third senior player for the Lady Steers, led the team with 11 blocks to go along with her nine kills, six digs and one ace.
Taking a cue from the senior leaders, Morgan Seaton was a force on the net, ringing up 15 assists, 14 kills, 12 digs and six blocks.

In the back, Carson Riebe, Clara Benavides and Logan Yarbar combined for 32 digs. Benavides also put up five blocks, four aces, two kills and an assist.

Kelsie Guinn and Ebony Zavala each had two blocks in the game, while Guinn added an ace and Zavala recorded a kill. Julianna Rodriquez had one dig for the Lady Steers.

Big Spring's JV squad in two games by scores of 25-21 and 25-20. However, the freshman team needed three games to get the win. After falling in the first game 19-25, the girls rebounded nicely and won the following two games 25-17 and 25-11.

The Lady Steers, 29-11 (4-2), will be back into district action Friday evening when they host Abilene Wylie. The freshman and varsity teams will play at 5 p.m., with the JV playing immediately after at 6 p.m.
