Lady Steers make tough wins look easy

LUBBOCK — The Lady Steers cruised through two tough opponents Tuesday night in Lubbock as they defeated Cooper and Denver City in straight sets. In the first heat of the doubleheader, Big Spring downed the hometown Lady Pirates by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-16.

Diamond Mayes led the team in blocks with 10, while adding two kills. Clara Benavides recorded a team best 14 digs to add to her two kills, three aces, one assist and one block, while Carson Reibe contributed with 14 digs of her own, along with an ace, assist and kill.

Fifteen assists were posted by Cerbi Ritchey, along with seven kills, six digs and four blocks. Morgan Seaton had 11 assists, eight digs, six assists and an ace. Taylor Seaton and Julianna Rodriquez combined for 13 kills, nine digs and three blocks in the big win for Big Spring.

In the encore, the Black and Gold easily took care of the Lady Mustangs 25-16, 25-12 and 25-16.

Ritchey and Morgan Seaton combined for 19 assists, 23 digs, 15 kills, one ace and a block, while Taylor Seaton recorded seven kills, four digs, three aces and a block.

On defense, Reibe and Carson put together two kills, five blocks, 12 digs and three aces.

The JV Lady Steers split their evening, falling to Lubbock Cooper 22-25 and 14-25, but defeating Denver City decisively 25-8 and 25-11.

The freshman girls swept their opponents in tough matches, defeating Cooper 29-27 and 25-20, then Denver City 29-27 and 25-21.
