Lady Steers now 9th in state

The Big Spring Lady Steers continued their winning ways Tuesday night, making a strong statement to Levelland and anyone else who might be listening. After breaking into the top 10 in the latest poll from the Texas Girls Coaches Association with a number nine ranking, the Lady Steers defeated Levelland 25-13, 25-8 and 25-16 in front of a pumped-up home crowd.

Three players recorded 10 kills in the game for the 24-9 Lady Steers. Cerbi Ritchey, Morgan Seaton and Taylor Seaton all three hit the double digit mark to lead the team.

Ritchey also put up a team-leading 17 assists, along with nine digs, two blocks and an ace, while Morgan Seaton added 16 assists and two blocks. Along with her 10 kills. Taylor Seaton was responsible for six digs, six blocks, an ace and a dig.

Diamond Mayes and Clara Benavides each had four kills, two blocks and an ace in the game for Big Spring. Mayes also added one dig, while Benavides claimed eight.

On defense, Carson Reibe shined again for the Lady Steers, grabbing a game-high 27 digs. Logan Yarbar added five digs of her own, while each of the two girls added an ace.

The Lady Steers will carry their impressive record into the district portion of the 2011 schedule starting Friday night, when they host Sweetwater. The freshman and varsity teams are scheduled to kick off their games at 5 p.m., with the JV playing immediately afterward.

The Big Spring JV squad defeated Levelland's JV team 25-6 and 25-18 Tuesday night, while the freshman team won 25-12 and 25-15.
