Lady Steers take two, improve record to 6-4

Big Spring's Ebony Zavala gets a hit during a volleyball game Tuesday as the Lady Steers topped Lubbock High and Andrews in back-to-back matches.

The Lady Steers improved their volleyball record to 6-4 Tuesday after back-to-back wins over Lubbock High and Andrews.

With a tough, non-district schedule, BSHS Head Coach Lynn Osborne said in an earlier interview that her team “May rack up quite a few losses,” before district action begins in Sept. The Lady Steers, however, have now won four straight matches.

Individual statistics from Tuesday's games are as follows:

Vs. Lubbock High — 15-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21

Setters: Morgan Seaton: 19 assists, 11 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs; Julianna Rodriguez: 9 assists, 3 kills, 5 digs, 2 aces; Kinsey Wash: 8 assists, 2 digs.
Offense: Erin Pollard: 11 kills, 3 digs, 1 ace; Ebony Zavala: 8 kills, 8 digs.
Defense: Carson Reibe: 16 digs, 1 kill, 4 aces; Clara Benevides: 7 digs, 4 kills.

Vs. Andrews — 25-18, 25-13, 25-15

Setters: Morgan Seaton: 17 assists, 4 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs, 1 block; Julianna Rodriguez: 4 assists, 4 kills, 1 dig, 1 block; Kinsey Wash: 6 assists, 1 dig.
Offense: Erin Pollard: 10 kills, 1 dig, 2 aces; Ebony Zavala: 9 kills, 6 digs, 3 aces.
Defense: Carson Reibe: 8 digs, 1 kill, 1 assist, 7 aces; Clara Benvides: 11 digs, 2 kills.

The Lady Steers varsity squad will be traveling to Granbury for a tournament Friday-Saturday.
