Lady Steers turn back Midland Christian
The Lady Steers were in action Tuesday, defending Steer Gym against Midland Christian. The game took all five matches to determine a winner, as the two teams took turns with the advantage, but Big Spring pulled out the win with scores of 14-25, 25-16, 25-17, 22-25 and 15-11.The 20-8 Lady Steers used every weapon available to them in the win, with familiar names leading the way. Setters Cerbi Ritchey and Morgan Seaton combined for an 49 assists in the game, along with 33 digs, 22 kills and 13 blocks.Taylor Seaton added a team-leading 19 kills. Seaton also contributed seven blocks, 17 digs and an ace to the winning effort. Diamond Mayes led the Lady Steers with 16 blocks along with her four kills on the night.On defense, Carson Reibe led the girls with 28 digs. She and Clara Benavides combined for 41 digs, five kills, four blocks and an assist.The Lady Steers will be on the home courts again Saturday when they host teams from Monohans, Lubbock Montery and Abilene Wylie in dual matches. The action starts at 10 a.m. with Big Spring playing Montery.The Big Spring JV squad fell to Midland Christian in three matches with scores of 25-19, 18-25 and 6-25, pushing their season record down to 6-8.The freshman girls also fell at the hands of Midland Christian in three tough matches that went down to the wire. The final scores were 25-20, 14-25 and 24-25.The JV and freshman teams will be playing this Saturday as well, with both teams taking on Monahans at 11 a.m. The JV squad will play in the main junior high gym and the freshman girls will play in the small gym at the junior high.
