Lady Steers win tournament

December 13, 2011

Logan Yarbar drained 13 points in the championship game and the Big Spring Lady Steers came back totown this weekend with a 63-26 win over Kermit and the tournament championship.

Big Spring went 4-0 in the tournament, with Bridgett Tuitt receiving All-Tournament honors and Mackenzie Stone taking the 3-point shootout championship for the Lady Steers.

Big Spring had Kermit outmatched from the opening tip, going on a 12-5 tear in the first quarter. By the end of the half, after exploding for 19 in the second frame, the Lady Steers were well out in front, taking a 31-13 lead into the locker rooms.

But with the game seemingly in hand, the Lady Steers showed no signs of letting up, they outscored Kermit by four points in the third quarter and then made it a point to sting the Yellow Jackets with a 21-6 final frame.

Following Yarbar's 13 points was Diamond Mayes with 11. Cerbi Ritchey and Bridgette Tuitt were good for eight points apiece, with Tuitt hitting a perfect 100 percent. She never missed a shot from the court or a free throw in the entire game, ensuring her All-Tournament honors.
“It was a different sort of tournament than we are used to,”Head Coach Mike Warren said. “I was only allowed to nominate one player for the team. Clearly, we could have had more on the tournament team.”

LaShaunte Anderson added seven points for the Lady Steers, with Amber Hill and Dyrshae Vanderbilt right behind her with six points each.
Rounding out the stat sheet for Big Spring were Ashton Galan and Mackenzie Stone, with two points.

The Lady Steers will be in Monahans tonight, with the freshman and JV teams playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity playing at 6:30 p.m.
