Lake clean up set Saturday; volunteers helpers needed

August 20, 2013

Local volunteers are banding together to tackle litter at Comanche Trail Lake, as part of the Love Our Lake and the Keep Texas Waterways Clean programs.

Keep Big Spring Beautiful will conduct a cleanup with the help of volunteers Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Dora Roberts Community Center.

Keep Big Spring Beautiful is committed to keeping the Comanche Trail Lake clean, not only to protect and restore it for us, and future generations, but to get the lake area cleaned for the Comanche Warrior Triathlon.

“This is a great way for people to show pride in their community. It’s a place everyone goes, whether it be for fishing, feeding the ducks or just to enjoy the park, and we want to keep it clean for everyone to enjoy,” KBSB President Jan Hansen said.

The event brings an influx of more than 100 people into the community.

“This is one of the ways we can get ready to put our best foot forward for the triathletes when they arrive,” said KBSB Secretary Teresa Darden.

H-E-B will be providing breakfast and prizes have been donated from Sonic and Taco Villa.

“Participating in the Love Our Lake cleanup is one way community members can do their part for the lake we all love and have a fun time outdoors with friends and family,” Hansen said.
