Large item pick up set for District 1

Spring cleaning, anyone?

The city of Big Spring's annual large item pickup service will get under way Friday, and according to Code Enforcement Supervisor Chad Averette, the program will be available to more city residents than ever before.

“In the past, the program was simply aimed at residents who didn't have the means to get these large items off their property and to the landfill,” said Averette. “Last year, however, we began opening it up to everyone. This is all part of an effort to go through each district and get rid of code violations.”

Averette said this month's large item pickup — the first for 2011 — will target District 1. The list of items city employees can pick up during the effort is quite long, but he said there are a few things they can not legally gather.
