Applications for Leadership Big Spring 2011-2012, hosted by Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce, are being accepted until July 29.
The class focuses on introducing members of the community to the inner workings of Big Spring. It is a 10-month course designed to show new and old residents alike the different aspects of the community and direct them to the different ways of getting involved in the community.
“This is a great way for people who are just moving here to learn about the community and it's also a great way for those residents who have lived here a long time to build their knowledge about Big Spring,” said Debbye ValVerde, Chamber executive director.
Tuition for the course is $400 for Chamber members and $600 for non-members. The class is open to businesses and individuals of the Howard County community.
“We have had great results in the past and we are expecting even better results this year,” said Vicki Stewart, Chamber information coordinator.
New ideas are being presented through Leadership Big Spring this year through the help of Nancy Michaelis, leadership skills instructor, ValVerde and Stewart. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. Participants will meet at the Chamber and the day's activities will be experienced as a group.
“This is a great way for businesses to develop leaders,” ValVerde said. “This is about getting people involved and introducing them not only to Big Spring, but all of Howard County.”
Applications can be returned to the chamber. Businesses have received applications, but if a new one is needed, Stewart said the Chamber would be glad to e-mail, mail or fax another copy. For more information regrading Leadership Big Spring, call the Chamber at 263-7641.
