Leland Calvert

Leland Calvert, 81, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012. He was born April 9, 1930, to Willie and Thelma Calvert in Spur, Texas.
Leland served in the U.S. Army, farmed in Spur, Texas, and retired from the postal service, where he was a supervisor in Big Spring, Texas. He moved to South Texas after retiring to Lakewood to pursue his interest in fishing, gardening and hunting. He enjoyed his retirement, traveling and being with his family, especially his grandson.
Leland was a loyal Presbyterian and served as an elder in the churches in Big Spring and Goliad.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynn Porter-Calvert; one daughter, Joyce Ashley Villarrea and husband Joe Villarreal; one grandson, Joe Michael Villarreal; and three sisters, Strelsa Greene, Mary Jo Williams and Jean Hamblet.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be held in Big Spring at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Mount Olive Cemetery with George Klett officiating. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Goliad Presbyterian Church in Goliad.
Memorials may be made to Goliad Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 617, Goliad, Texas 77963. Goliad Funeral Home, located at 414 W. Ward St., is in charge of arrangements.
