Local man pleads to sex abuse charges

A Big Spring man pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual abuse of a child (continuous) – age 14 years or less in Collins County last week, with sentencing in the case slated for Aug. 9, according to court records.

Michael Dale Hodnett, 48, formerly of Farmersville, Texas, and currently residing at 301 W. Robinson, was arrested July 13, 2010, by the Howard County Sheriff's Office on a Collin County warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Hodnett was indicted by a Collins County grand jury Oct. 28, 2010, on one count of sexual abuse of a child (continuous) – age 14 years or less and released on $50,000 bond.

A jury trial in the case was scheduled to begin Monday morning in 401st District Court in McKinney, Texas, however, a guilty plea was entered by Hodnett and his attorney, Donna Winfield, on June 14.

According to court documents, sentencing in the case is slated for Aug. 9 in McKinney, with Hodnett required to wear an electronic leg monitoring device until then.
