Lucia G. Manzanarez, 83, of Big Spring died Tuesday at her residence. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
She was born June 25, 1930, in Big Spring to Juanita and Marcelino Gonzales. She grew up in Knott and spent most of her life in Howard County, except for 20 years in California. She worked for 15 years at the University of California at Irvine. She married Columbo Manzanarez in Santa Ana, Calif., on Nov. 4, 1965. He preceded her in death March 7, 2009. She was one of the first housekeepers at Mayo Ranch Motel.
She is survived by one son, Ray Sanchez Jr. of Big Spring; two daughters, Yolanda Martinez and husband Joe of Big Spring and Veronica Rodriguez and husband Rafael of Corona, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Mike Manzanarez, Juanita Lerma and Ismael Vargas of Big Spring, Joseph Martinez and wife Krystle of Colorado City, Eric Martinez, Nicolas Romero and Laura Romero, all of Big Spring; and two great-grandchildren: Cassidy Martinez and Carlos Jose Vargas of Big Spring.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Rosalia Billalba, Florencia Franco, Basilicia Moran and Margaret Romero; and two brothers, Pablo Gonzales and Ascencion Gonzales.
Pallbearers are Mike Manzanarez, Ismael Vargas, Joseph Martinez, Eric Martinez, Nicolas Romero, Tommy Billalba, Gabriel Lopez and Edward Romero. Honorary pallbearers are Laura Romero, Cassidy Martinez and Carlos Jose Vargas.
