Machete-wielding man accused of assaulting wife

A Big Spring man has been charged with aggravated assault – family violence after law enforcement official say he allegedly attacked his wife with a machete.

Michael Dale Preston, 28, of 401 Young, was arrested Tuesday by the Big Spring Police Department on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury – family violence. Preston also faces a warrant for revocation of probation for driving while intoxicated from Hockley County, according to officials with the Howard County Detention Center.

According to police reports, the incident happened Monday in the 400 block of Young when Preston allegedly struck his wife in the head with a machete during the course of a domestic dispute.

The woman was transported to the emergency room at Scenic Mountain Medical Center, where she received several stitches as a result of the attack and was released shortly after.

Preston was also transported to SMMC, where he was treated for undisclosed injuries. According to police records, the Big Spring man was released from the hospital Tuesday morning, when he was booked into the Howard County Detention Center.

Bond has been set at $40,000 for the aggravated assault charge and $10,000 for the Hockley County warrant, according to law enforcement officials. Preston was still in the custody of the Howard County Detention Center at the time of this report.
