“And the Man and Woman of the Year are … “ yet to be determined.
Man and Woman of the Year will be announced at the annual Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce banquet set for Jan. 31. Of course, for those wanting to submit a nomination there are a few requirements to remember.
All nominations must be submitted in written form, provided and approved by the selection committee in order to ensure the relevant information is received about the nominee.
“In order to make sure it doesn't turn into a popularity vote, the committee will be basing their decision on information provided in the nomination only and not anything else,” Chamber Executive Director Debbye ValVerde said.
Also to be included on the nomination form are the name, address and phone number of the nominator. The person nominating is required to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce; however, the nominee does not have to be, according to the selection criteria.
“The winner will be chosen based on all around contributions to the community, not just for extraordinary performance in the person's businesses or employment,” ValVerde said.
A consistent track record of contributions to the community is recommended for the nominee. Those holding a political office at this time are not eligible for nomination.
For those wanting to submit nominees, the deadline is Jan. 9. Forms can be picked up at the Chamber office or can be faxed or emailed upon request.
