An Odessa man has been arrested and charged with theft and drug possession following the search of a local property where a number of stolen items — including a large quantity of oilfield equipment — were recovered.

Robert Allen Pasquale, 28, of 133 Aztec Ave. in Odessa, was arrested Friday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and theft after investigators discovered more than $40,000 in stolen property at a residence located northeast of Big Spring.

“Deputies with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office responded to 101 Broken Bow Rd. in Howard County at approximately 11:36 a.m. Friday in reference to a fire,” Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker said. “Upon arrival, deputies discovered the fire was contained in a large pit in the ground. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that two large spools of copper wire were burning in the pit.”

Parker said firefighters with the Big Spring Fire Department and Howard County Volunteer Fire Department were called to the scene.

“Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire,” Parker said. “Upon further investigation, several items were discovered on the property that were reported stolen from Ector County. A search warrant was executed on the property and deputies recovered a 20-feet tandem axle trailer, oil field valves and equipment, electrical parts and several spools of copper and aluminum wire.”

Parker said investigators also recovered a quantity of methamphetamines, as well as a rifle that had been reported stolen in a burglary being investigated by the Big Spring Police Department.

“All items were seized by the Howard County Sheriff’s Office,” Parker said. “The items seized are believed to have a value of more than $40,000. Pasquale was arrested at the scene. The investigation is currently ongoing and more arrests are expected in this case.”

According to officials with the Howard County Detention Center, Pasquale's bond was set at $2,500, with the Odessa man bonding out Saturday.
